Response Caching vs Fresh LLM Calls

When caching AI responses saves time and money, when a fresh model call is required, and how RSFlowHub handles repeated requests.

Side by side

Cached Responses vs Fresh LLM Calls

Option A

Cached Responses

Identical requests to the same endpoint return a stored result instead of calling the model again.

Strengths

  • Much faster repeat responses
  • Free or discounted credits on cache hits
  • Consistent answers for identical input
Option B

Fresh LLM Calls

Every request goes to the model, producing a new result each time.

Strengths

  • Always uses the latest context
  • Variety for creative tasks

How caching works on RSFlowHub

For endpoints with caching enabled, RSFlowHub keys the cache on the endpoint, the normalised input and the model. A repeated identical request within the cache window is answered from cache. Most utility endpoints charge nothing for cache hits; some generation endpoints charge a discounted rate.

Good candidates for caching

  • Intent detection and FAQ matching on common questions.
  • Moderation of duplicated or reposted comments.
  • Translation of repeated UI strings or product text.

Frequently asked questions

Can a cached answer be outdated?
Only within the cache window, and only for identical input. Tasks that depend on changing context should use endpoints without caching.
