Shopify Chatbot With Live Stock and Order Tracking (Setup Guide)

Shopify Chatbot With Live Stock and Order Tracking (Setup Guide)

Quick Answer

A Shopify chatbot can read your live store, so it shows today's prices and stock and tells customers where their order is. In RSFlowHub you create a small app in the Shopify Dev Dashboard with only read_products and read_orders access, then paste its Client ID and secret into your chatbot. Customers see product cards in the chat, and must give the phone or email on an order before they see its status. It needs no code, and it cannot change anything in your store.

"Where is my order?" is one of the most common messages any online store gets, and it is usually followed by "is this in stock?" and "do you have it under ₹1,500?". Your team should not have to answer these one by one, and a chatbot that only knows your FAQ page cannot. This guide explains how to connect a chatbot to your Shopify store, what to compare if you are choosing between Shopify apps, and how the setup works step by step.

What the chatbot can answer from Shopify

  • Product search: "do you have snowboards?" shows cards with the image, price, compare-at price and stock, plus a Show more button when there are more.
  • Budget and stock filters: "bags in stock" or "laptop under 50k". Hinglish works too: "mujhe red shoes chahiye 2000 ke niche".
  • Product details: a Details button shows the description and which variants are available.
  • Order status: "where is my order?" asks for the order number and the phone or email, then shows the status, total and payment state, with a Track shipment button when the order has a tracking link.

Only products published to your online store appear, so drafts, archived products and products you have not published to the store stay out of the chat. Stock shows as "Only 3 left" when it is low, and a product whose variants have different prices says "From ₹499".

What to compare before you choose

The Shopify App Store has several chatbots with order tracking, and for many stores one of them is a sound choice. Compare these points, because the listings do not always make them clear:

Ask Why it matters
Does it read live stock, or only order status? Many apps focus on tracking. "Is this available?" needs the catalog as well.
What must a customer give to see an order? An order number alone can be guessed. Look for a phone or email check.
What access does it ask for?Prefer read-only. A support chat has no need to write to your store.
How is it billed?Check whether you pay in rupees, per message or per seat, and what happens when you run out.
Does it work beyond Shopify? If you also run another site, one chatbot and one dashboard is simpler.
Can it answer Hinglish questions?Indian shoppers often type "2000 ke niche" rather than "under ₹2,000".

How to connect your Shopify store

RSFlowHub is not installed from the App Store. You create your own small app, so you decide exactly what it can read, and the keys belong to you.

  1. Open the Shopify Dev Dashboard under the organization your store belongs to. The app and the store must share an organization.
  2. Create an app with only the read_products and read_orders scopes.
  3. Allow customer data access. The chatbot needs it to check a customer's phone or email against the order. Without it, order status cannot work, and the Live data tab tells you so.
  4. Release the app and install it on your store.
  5. Connect it: in your RSFlowHub chatbot open Live data, choose Shopify, then enter your your-store.myshopify.com address, the Client ID and the secret.
  6. Set your website address in the chatbot's allowed domains, then switch on product search, details, categories and order status.
Have an older custom app?
An access token from an older custom app also works. Paste it in place of the Client ID and secret.

Add the chat to your theme

Copy the script tag from the chatbot's Website widget tab. In Shopify go to Online Store → Themes → Edit code, open layout/theme.liquid and paste it just before </body>.

layout/theme.liquid HTML
<script src="https://rsflowhub.com/widget/v1/rsflowhub-widget.js"
        data-widget-token="wt_sec_YOUR_WIDGET_TOKEN"
        async></script>

The script that loads on every page is small, and the full chat downloads only when a visitor is about to use it, so it adds little to your page load.

How customer data stays safe

  • Two things to see an order: the order number and the phone or email on it. A wrong phone and an unknown order get the same answer, and repeated wrong tries are blocked.
  • No personal details in the answer: the card shows status, total and payment, never a name or address.
  • Masked history: the phone or email in the stored chat is hidden, and the saved reply is a short summary.
  • Read-only: queries only. The chatbot cannot change a price, an order or a product.
  • Keys stay on our server: stored encrypted, never sent to the visitor's browser. A saved key can never be moved to another store.
  • Search stays search: what a visitor types is cleaned before it reaches Shopify, so nobody can use Shopify's search syntax to reach products you have hidden.

Limits you should know

  • The last 60 days of orders. By default Shopify lets an app read only the last 60 days. For a customer with an older order, the chatbot says it could not find a match.
  • It only reads. It cannot cancel or edit orders, start a return or add to a cart.
  • No pincode delivery check from a store connection. That needs a small endpoint of your own.
  • The chatbot's own lines are in English. It understands Hinglish questions, and product names appear as you wrote them.

What it costs

Live data is available on the Starter plan and above. Each answer from your store uses 1 credit from your plan, and a failed lookup or an order that was not found costs nothing. Prices are in rupees with GST included; see the pricing page.

Key Takeaways

  • A chatbot needs both the catalog and orders to answer most store questions.
  • Give it read_products and read_orders only: a support chat has no reason to write to your store.
  • Order status should always need a phone or email, not just an order number.
  • Shopify allows the last 60 days of orders by default, so plan for older ones.
  • Compare billing, Hinglish support and what happens when you run out, not only the feature list.
